Average salary of Rs 11.3 lakhs at first round of IIT-B placements

Mumbai: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay’s (IIT-B) first phase of placements came to an end with around 275 companies visiting the campus and making offers to around 950 students across all programmes for placements.

“Around 309 students from B.Tech, 371 students from M.Tech and around 169 students from dual degree were placed. The average salary this year is Rs 11.32 lakh. However, B.Tech students obtained a slightly higher salary than the dual degree and M.Tech students. But the percentage of students placed is higher in dual degree and M.Tech students against the B.Tech ones,” said IIT-B in statement released on Tuesday.

The sector-wise percentage for placements is 30 per cent for engineering and technology, 20 per cent for IT/software, and 15 per cent in the case of finance. Further, placements for analytics and consulting was at 10 per cent.

Intel technologies made the highest number of offers, i.e. 28, the statement further added. Intel technologies apart, the companies that made more than 20 offers included Samsung, followed by Dar-Al, CitiCorp and Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University making more than 15 offers. Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Axis Bank, Credit Suisse, DataXU and Future First made more than 10 offers. The second phase for the placement season will commence from January 2017 onwards.
