Nigerian dupes woman of Rs 1.83l, held

Mumbai: A Nigerian national (36) has landed in the custody of the Navghar police for duping a woman from Bhayandar after befriending her on Facebook (FB).

A resident of Oraukwu town in Anambra state, Nigeria, the accused, identified as Peter Anaekpo Okwuchukwu, is suspected to be part of an organised gang involved in extracting money from several women under the pretext of sending expensive gifts.

A team led by police inspector (crime) Suresh Gengje, tracked the bank accounts and held Peter from Navi Mumbai.

The complainant, a nurse, came in contact with Peter through FB in June this year. Eventual-ly, he proposed marriage to her and expressed his desire to send her expensive gifts. She received a call from the parcel office asking her to pay certain charges to obtain the parcel. Thus, she was duped of a total Rs1.83 lakh.
