Mumbai: A petition has been filed in the Bombay high court challenging the Konkan Divisional Commissioner’s order which allowed six Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporators to join Shiv Sena’s group in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The petition has claimed that the order of the divisional commissioner is illegal.

Shirish Sawant, general secretary, MNS through advocate Akshay Kashid has filed the writ petition before the Bombay high court. According to the petition, BMC election was held in February 2017 following which the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had formed an alliance and started ruling the BMC. After the election, every party had to register their groups with the Konkan Divisional Commissioner under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. The MNS had registered their seven members.

In October last year, six corporators of MNS left the party and joined Shiv Sena. The group leader of Shiv Sena Yashwant Jadhav submitted the letter to the divisional commissioner for modification of group in the BMC along with the letter of six corporators.

The MNS had challenged the procedure and filed a petition before the divisional commissioner. Following which the merger of the corporators was stayed for more than two months. But on January 25, 2018, the divisional commissioner had allowed the corporators to merge with the Shiv Sena group and dismissed the MNS’ petition. The MNS moved Bombay high court and challenged the order.
