2 professors held for seeking sexual favours

Mumbai: Two professors of a private college in Nashik district were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly seeking sexual favours from a Class 12 student in return for passing her in the examination.

The incident came to light Tuesday evening after the 19-year-old lodged a complaint against the said professors at the Adgaon police station.

The complainant alleged that they had demanded sexual favours from her. After the investigation based on the complaint, the police booked the duo – Pravin Suryavanshi and Sachin Sonavani – under IPC section 354 (A) for sexual harassment, 354 (D) for stalking, and 34 for common intention, and arrested them immediately.

The complainant told the police that the duo had been stalking her since 2015 and used to touch her inappropriately along with holding her hands. Tuesday afternoon when the victim was at college, one of the professors approached her, held her hand, and started touching her inappropriately.

The official confirmed the same. Fed up of their alleged sexual advances, the complainant went home and narrated the incident to her parents, following which, they filed a complaint against the professors, the official said.Further investigation is underway, the police said.
