Mumbai: The Palghar police arrested a woman and her paramour for murdering her husband and disposing his body at an isolated location in Boisar. The duo hatched the plan after the victim learned about their love affair. The duo hacked him to death at his residence and later lodged a missing persons’ complainant.

The police began the probe after Anilkumar Rawat (32) was reported missing by his wife Mamata on February 15. The officers received information that the body of an unidentified man was found near the ETP plot in Shivaji Nagar area; he was later identified to be Rawat himself.

An officer of Palghar said, “The body had several injuries all over inflicted with an unknown sharp object. The team then began investigating the death as a murder case and found that the murderer was based in Andheri.”

The police tracked him down to the MIDC area in Andheri and he was identified as Sonu alias Ramprakash. The police also found blots of blood on one of the walls of Rawat’s residence, which, too, laid bare the murder plan. The officials questioned him about the sequence of incidents when he revealed that Rawat’s wife was also part of the conspiracy.

“The duo was having a love affair and Rawat learned about it. When he resisted and the couple began having frequent fights, Sonu and the victim’s wife hatched a plan to kill Rawat. They attacked him with a sharp weapon and after stabbing him several times, both the accused disposed his body at an isolated spot,” said the officer.

The Boisar police later arrested Mamata too in the case and they have been booked for murder, acts of common intention and criminal conspiracy as per the provisions of the IPC. The duo has been remanded to police custody for further investigation in the case. The officials are looking for the murder weapon as part of the evidence in the case.
