‘Candidates have to declare income details for local polls’

The candidates will have to submit details of the sources of income and the details of the same for the last three years.

Mumbai: The State Election Commissioner J.S. Sahariya on Saturday stated that, declaration of source and details of income and various agreements of self and dependent family members would be mandatory in the affidavits to be submitted by candidates along with their application for local body elections. They will also have to state information with respect to the elections they have contested before.

Mr Sahariya further stated that candidates contesting the municipal corporation, municipal council, zilla parishad and panchayat elections are required to submit the affidavit along with the nomination papers. This affidavit will includes details of their assets and liabilities, educational qualification and information related to criminal background, if any.  However amendments are effected in the format of the affidavit in terms of the directives issued by the Supreme Court on February 16 this year.

The candidates will have to submit details of the sources of income and the details of the same for the last three years, in respect of self and dependents wherein details of agriculture, employment, trade, capital gain, prizes/donations and other income will have to be furnished.
