Peon sentenced to five year jail for raping student

Mumbai: A special POCSO court Monday sentenced a peon of a prominent college located in Andheri to five years for molesting a student in January 2015.

According to the public prosecutor Geeta Sharma, Judge C.A. Nathani sentenced Sanjay Gaikwad to five years’ imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 13,000 on him.

According to the police, on January 1, 2015, when the victim was in college, she asked the accused to check with the teacher if there was a Maths lecture till 4.30pm. Gaikwad, held her hand to get up, spoke to the teacher, and informed her that there was a lecture till evening.

Later, under the pretext of showing her the flowers on the mango tree, he placed his hands on her shoulder and neck inside an empty classroom and later molested her. The victim escaped after informing her friends who in turn informed the principal about the incident.

However, the next day, Gaikwad was present in college so the victim narrated the incident to her mother later in the evening following which a case was registered against him.
