Ten chargesheeted for Maoist links

Pune: The Pune police Thursday filed a chargesheet against the five activists arrested for their alleged Maoist links i.e. Shoma Sen, Surendra Gadling, Sudhir Dhawale, Mahesh Raut and Rona Wilson.

Dr K. Venkatesham, poli-ce commissioner, Pune ci-ty, said, “The Pune police on Thursday filed a charge sheet of 5,160 pages aga-inst five activists who were arrested on June 6 this year. The police is also filing a charge sheet against five underground activists i.e. comrade M. Deepak Milind Teltumb-ade (central committee member), Kishan da alias Prashant Bose (secretary, eastern regional bureau, CC member), Prakash alias Naveen alias Ritupan Goswami, comrade Deepu, and comrade Manglu.”

All of them were arrested on June 6 for having links with banned Communist Party of India (Maoist).

The police could not file the charge sheet within the stipulated period of 90 days which got over on September 30. However, the Pune court granted an extension of 90 days to file the charge sheet.

The activists’ lawyers ap-proached the Bombay hi-gh court which stayed the Pune court order. Howev-er, the Supreme Court aga-in allowed the extension.

Dr Venkatesham said, “The Pune police has taken action against urban Naxals after meticulous investigation. A total ten people (five underground and five arrested) have been charge sheeted. The charges against them are of being members of and supporting the banned CPI Maoist organisation, criminal conspiracy, planning to conduct unlawful activities, promoting enmity between different groups, making statements towards public mischief, and raising funds for banned organisation.”
