Plastic, thermocol and other floating waste will be removed and the appointed contractor will do this work for the next three years.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will spend Rs 10 crore to clear the Mithi River in the MMRDA area. The 1.5km stretch of river will be cleaned by removing floating garbage.

“The 1.5km river stretch, which comes between G block and Premnagar nullah, is covered under this cleanliness work. At both ends, the contractor will fix a net to hold the trash. This floating debris will be removed with the help of a mechanical trash remover. During high tide, workers will remove the floating trash with the help of a mechanical trash remover. While at low tide, workers will manually clear trash near the mangrove area,” said an official.

The MMRDA will spend Rs 10 crore on the work. Plastic, thermocol and other floating waste will be removed and the appointed contractor will do this work for the next three years.

The contractor will not only remove the trash from the surface but also take this trash to the dumping grounds. “The work will start from February-end this year” said an official from MMRDA.
