Mumbai: The metro construction work near the Paradise Cinema in Mahim has led to noise levels rising to 100 decibels, according to the NGO Awaaz Foundation. Residents of the area stated that the drilling work that starts at 6 am is carried out throughout the day till 10 pm with no noise barriers.

Sumaira Abdulali, the founder of NGO Awaaz Foundation, claimed that noise levels near the Metro work are double the permissible limits in residential areas, thereby impacting the health of citizens. Locals asserted that they have complained about the issue to the site officers of metro work. The noise levels recorded by the NGO were between 95.8 and 106.1 dB, equivalent to that of a power lawn mower.

Meanwhile, Laura D’Silva, a 70-year-old resident, said that the drilling operations are touching the 50-year-old building where she resides.  

“We haven’t received any  feedback. If residents have any such issues, they can bring it to us. We at MMRC always ensure that necessary measures are taken to complete the project in time causing least inconvenience to citizens,” said a spokesperson from Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation.
