Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the 2012 Sheena Bora murder case, Wednesday moved an application before the special CBI court saying she wanted to undergo a polygraph test also known as a lie detector test. She said that earlier, CBI had sought to conduct these tests on her but she had not given consent because she was mentally stressed but now she was ready to undergo the tests. The CBI will now file a reply to her plea.

Indrani submitted a handwritten application before special judge J.C. Jagdale in which she sought permission of the court to undergo a polygraph test for the Sheena Bora murder case.

The Judge had asked the CBI to file its reply to her plea because it was the prerogative of the probe agency to decide if it wanted to conduct such tests or not on the accused. Though in 2015, the CBI offered to conduct the lie detector test on Indrani but at that point in time, she refused to give consent and as per Supreme Court guidelines, an accused could not be made to undergo such tests without his or her consent. In the absence of Indrani’s consent, the CBI could not conduct the polygraph test on her.

About her earlier refusal, Indrani in her current application said, “What is pertinent to mention here is that I had not given my consent at that point because I was under tremendous pressure not to undergo the test. I was in a state of shock, mentally disturbed and vulnerable and physically very unwell.”
