MUMBAI: A 32-minute short film, Chalo Jeete Hain, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's childhood will be screened at all Zilla Parishad schools of Maharashtra on September 18.

Education officers and teachers have been informed about the programme through social media platforms by the state government. The short film focuses on social reform as per the writers of the short film. The film is being screened following instructions given to the state by the central government.

According to officials of the education department, schools are being instructed to show the short film on September 18 between 10 am to 3 pm in the premises of the school. "We have been told to arrange laptops or computers, which should have internet facilities as the film will be showed online through a website. Anyway, every week we show something or other to our students so it would be fun for our children to see this short film," said a ZP school teacher located at Shahapur Taluka, Asangaon.

The film is shot in post independence India in a small town of Gujarat, which is also Mr Modi's hometown.  In the movie, Narendra or Naru, the protagonist and his family are shown to be economically poor and socially backward.  The film portrays how the constant humiliation and marginalisation due to the family's economic condition affects the boy. The film goes on to narrate how the boy gets inspired by the words of Swami Vivekananda.
