Nearly 2L people apply for 1,384 Mhada homes

Name of the lottery winners will be announced on December 16, 2018.

The results of the lottery will be declared online on the same day, confirmed the officials.

Mumbai: The registration for 1,384 Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (Mhada) houses, which began on November 5, came to an end on December 10, 2018. This year, 1.5 lakh applicants have registered for Mhada’s housing lottery, 1.97 lakh people have filled up the applications and 1.64 lakh people have deposited the required amount. Name of the lottery winners will be announced on December 16, 2018.

The applications were made against mere 1,384 lottery homes, the draw will be held at the housing authority’s headquarters and will be live streamed on social media. “The lottery received a good response this year due to a change in pricing structures we made, next year we will aim to have more houses under the lottery,” said an official from Mhada.

The results of the lottery will be declared online on the same day, confirmed the officials. “The demand for homes is increasing with each year’s lottery, hence we are initiating a survey in order to trace the lands available under our authority for construction of homes. A third party agency like MMRDA, maybe roped in to carry out the survey,” said Uday Samant, president of Mhada.

This year two flats admeasuring 960 sq. ft. carpet area valued at `5.80 crore each have been reserved for the Mhada’s lottery under the high income group (HIG) category. While the cheapest house is priced at `14 lakh which is reserved under the economically weaker section (EWS).
