Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday termed the allegations of Hindu terrorism during the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime  as ‘unfortunate.’ Mr Thackeray criticised the press conference called by Additional Director General of Police, Parambir Singh about the investigation into the Bhima-Koregaon violence, in which activists were alleged to have links with Maoists.  

Mr Thackeray called for evidence instead of only allegations. He added that the Sena would not quit the government. “We are doing good work for the people, more than the opposition, by continuing in the government.”

According to Mr Thackeray, instead of a reply on the Bhima-Koregaon probe by the political leadership, ADG Singh held the press briefing and made various claims. He asked the government to furnish proof instead of only levelling allegations against the Sanatan Sanstha and naxal links.

Mr Thackeray also clarified that the Sena had no intention of quitting  the government as they were doing good work.  He lashed out at Narendra Modi government’s economic policies. He referred to the downfall of the rupee and feared that it may touch the `100 mark per dollar. “Investors are not ready to invest as the atmosphere is not good, industries are in trouble and facing losses.  The economy has worsened due to decision like demonetisations,” he said.

Mr Thackeray said he had spoken to Hardik Patel, who is on a hunger strike for the last 12 days and appealed to him to end the agitation.
