Mumbai: The Santa Cruz police arrested the 21-year-old boyfriend of a minor girl, after she approached the police with a fake complaint. The girl had complained that she was kidnapped and gang raped by unknown persons, which put the police on the edge to nab the accused. The police started the investigation according to her narration of the sequence of events, but came across some loopholes. The police conducted medical tests on her and was awaiting results, but the minor girl in a fearful state, spilled the beans. She then confessed that she was staying with her 21-year-old lover for two days, following which the police arrested the boy on Friday for having sex with a minor under provisions of POCSO.

The family, residing in Santa Cruz who the girl works for, lodged a missing complaint on May 28 when she did not turn up at work for two days in a row. Upon her return, the girl told the police that she was kidnapped and gang-raped by unknown persons for two days.

During investigation, when the female police officers asked the minor in confidence about her doings in the past two days, she confessed out of fear and said that she was out with her boyfriend. On the basis of these revelations, the police arrested her lover from his residence in Khar, and the case was transferred to Khar police station.

Speaking to The Asian Age, DCP Zone-9, Paramjit Dahiya, said, “We have arrested the minor’s boyfriend under section 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act.”
