Italian banker’s rapist arrested

According to sources, the arrested accused, Nandi, was nabbed in the Cuffe Parade area, where he was residing.

The victim met the accused during the bus tour on June 14.

MUMBAI: The Mumbai crime branch arrested south Mumbai tour guide, 27-year-old Rakesh Nandi, Monday for allegedly raping an Italian banker on June 14 in a cab.

Police sources said that the arrest was made on the basis of the CCTV footage acquired from the route they took to reach the victim’s hotel in Colaba from Juhu.

According to sources, the arrested accused, Nandi, was nabbed in the Cuffe Parade area, where he was residing.

The police said that the investigation was aided after the case was transferred from the Colaba police station to Juhu police station as the alleged incident took place in the latter’s jurisdiction.

A police officer, on condition anonymity, said that looking at the sensitivity and grievousness of the crime, the case was transferred to the crime branch Sunday, and the accused was traced and arrested within 24 hours.

The accused will be produced in the court on Tuesday.

Police said that the victim, in her complaint filed on Friday, has stated that on the day of the incident, she had boarded a bus as part of a sightseeing tour.

The victim met the accused during the bus tour on June 14.

He introduced himself as a tour guide and the victim hired his services.

After the bus tour ended at around 7 pm in Juhu that day, the accused offered to show the victim the bungalow of  film superstar Amitabh Bachchan, which is also in the vicinity.

Following this, the arrested accused allegedly forced her to consume alcohol, then touched her inappropriately and raped her in the car he was driving.
