Nagpur: Nearly 1,000 Gosikhurd project-hit farmers drawn from Bhandara, Gondia, Nagpur, Chandrapur and other districts on Friday entered the new MLA’s hostel here in the afternoon and performed Hindi film, Sholay-style agitation to press their demand for proper compensation and rehabilitation of affected farmers.

Led by Badnera independent MLA Bachchu Kadu, the farmers entered the MLA hostel and occupied it. Several farmers climbed to the terrace and threatened to jump off if their demands were not met.

 According to available information, the project-hit farmers, hailing from around 50 villages in the vicinity of the Gosikhurd dam, shouted slogans against the government and demanded compensation. In view of the situation, a large posse of police personnel was deployed to bring the situation under control.

The guardian minister for Nagpur district, Chandrashekhar Bawankule tried to pacify them but they refused to move.

The government has failed to provide proper package and rehabilitation of Gosikhurd project-hit people for three decades. “Our agitation will continue till the demands are not conceded,” said Kadu.

The agitating farmers  shouted slogans against the government and refused to end the agitation till they received an assurance from chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
