Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced in the legislative assembly  that the government will cancel the controversial Navi Mumbai land deal in the Cidco area after consulting the state law and judiciary department.

The prime government land near Navi Mumbai airport had been allotted to eight Koyana project affected persons in February this year. It was then immediately purchased for peanuts by a builder.  City Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam had slammed the chief minister’s office over land deal. The CM had then announced a judicial probe into the deal.

The controversy over the deal erupted after the Congress leader alleged that the land had been purchased by the partners of Paradise Builders, who were close to Bharatiya Janata Party  MLA Prasad Lad.

After an uproar in the assembly over the issue, the CM announced the judicial probe and granted a stay on the deal. After pressure from the opposition, The CM s announced that the deal was cancelled. “The project affected persons got the money. Now, whoever has purchased the land will face the music.” Mr Nirupam welcomed the decision.
