New Delhi: Delhi BJP workers on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest near the proposed landfill sites at Ghonda Gujran Khadar and Sonia Vihar.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said that the Congress, which ruled Delhi for a long time and the present AAP government are responsible for this present crisis — garbage disposal.

Mr Tiwari alleged that the successive Congress governments allowed unauthorised colonies to come up, but didn’t frame any policy for garbage disposal and neither did they implement any policy.

Mr Tiwari further alleged that the public land continued to be grabbed and the successive governments including the present one, did not rise from slumber.

Mr Tiwari warned that he will not allow 20 lakh people of the area to suffer due to mismanagement of garbage and with the cooperation of the people,  the BJP will force Delhi government to make alternative arrangement for this purpose.

Mr Tiwari asked the Delhi government why it was trying to protect the 70 acres land in Tikri village and why the state government wants to spoil the riverbed of Yamuna, which is the lifeline of the national capital in spite of the fact that alternative site is available with it.

“One can’t understand the logic behind creating a landfill site by removing the security forces camps’  situated in Sonia Vihar when land is available in uninhabited area,” he said. He said it is necessary to probe who wants to poison the Yamuna. Till, I am alive no power on the earth can create landfill sites in Ghonda Gujran Khadar and Sonia Vihar" Mr Tiwari, Lok Sabha member from North East Delhi, said.
