New Delhi: A woman councillor representing Anand Vihar Ward 18-E has filed a complaint against East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) deputy commissioner for sending an obscene message on WhatsApp group.

Gunjan Gupta approached the jurisdictional police station in Anand Vihar on Sunday and registered a complaint against the deputy commissioner of EDMC, Atiq Ahmed, for sending an obscene (nude picture) message in the group on Saturday night.

In her complaint, Ms Gupta stated that she has been a member of the WhatsApp group that was created by the EDMC to keep an eye on work-related issues in the ward. The group was created by Mr Ahmed himself. On Saturday night, he sent an obscene and vulgar message on the group, hence violating Section 67 A of the IT Act.

Ms Gupta added that being a woman herself, the message and its content was disturbing and insulting. She has sought police intervention in order to book a case against Mr Ahmed for resorting to obscenity. The Anand Vihar police has taken up the case and has registered the plaint in this connection.
