New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing admission process in Delhi University, the restaurant gives a delectable twist to students and parents as well.

Located in Vijay Nagar, a kilometre away from the main north Campus, the cafe is a prime hangout for the students who come from different states for admission in DU. The cafe opened in November last.

“The sole reason to open the cafe is to provide affordable food to students. Being away from home, I longed for hearty  and affordable meals; I always skipped morning meals. I went all over the North Campus, but there is not one hotel that provided affordable food from morning. That is when I opened the restauran. We serve breakfast from 8am,” said owner of the Old City Cafe and Restaurant, Siddhant Singh (25), who hails from Varanasi in UP.

The cafe serves recipes dug out from across the country —  from Kashmiri cuisine to Bihar’s famous Litti. This is not all, customers at the restaurant can also have a glimpse of vintage and rare photos of old Delhi, especially colonial era, while eating fresh, hygienic and affordable food to their hearts fill.

“This is the only place famous for its freshly prepared 36 types of chutneys. They provide quality food with service at a very affordable price tag. The best part is it is close to my college," said Nishant, student and regular customer.

He added, "We close at midnight keeping in mind the uncertain nature of students’ timings. The menu, which is quite big,  has food for students from all states. From sattu parathas for students belonging to Bihar and upma for those from the South, we try to provide an array of diverse eatables," Mr Singh added.

When asked about the kind of response they got, he said, "We opened the café to try and resolve food-related issues of the students and we are getting close to it. The aim of opening this restaurant, to provide healthy food at an affordable price to students, is somewhat fulfiled," he said.
