‘Skull breaker challenge’ can be fatal, doctors warn teenagers

The ‘skull-breaker challenge’ begins with three people standing alongside each other, seemingly ready to jump into the air.

According to Dr Samir Parikh of Fortis National Mental Health Program, this is not the first time they have witnessed trends on social media that is not only detrimental to one’s emotional well-being, but can have a lasting impact on the physical health of individuals.

New Delhi: Health experts warned about the “skull breaker challenge,” which is going viral on various social media platforms, saying that youngsters must stop following any such challenges as it may be fatal.

Dr Arvind Mehra, the head of orthopedics and trauma centre at Paras Hospital, said: “This challenge can lead to skull fracture, which can be fatal. The person can also go into coma and depending on the severity of the fall it may even cause death.”

According to Dr Samir Parikh of Fortis National Mental Health Program, this is not the first time they have witnessed trends on social media that is not only detrimental to one’s emotional well-being, but can have a lasting impact on the physical health of individuals.

"While we cannot always control the content that children view online, it’s important that we address these challenges immediately. Parents need to encourage children to open up and have conversations about such instances,” said Dr Parikh.
