The accused claimed he had lent money to the woman and when he asked for repayment, she levelled allegations of rape against him.

New Delhi: The Delhi police crime branch on Wednesday launched an investigation against an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) who has been booked for allegedly raping a woman and molesting her minor daughter. Besides this, she has stated that the police officer also kidnapped her son.

The woman had filed a complaint against the officer, Ramesh Dahiya, in July and alleged that she came in contact with him after the death of her husband, who was a criminal.

The accused policeman was recently promoted to the rank of ACP after serving as the incharge of Sadar Bazar police station.

Mr Dahiya was reportedly sent on medical leave after the complainant lodged an FIR against him in July this year.

A senior police officer, while confirming the allegations, said that a case has been lodged against the accused under Section 376 of the IPC. The same will be investigated by a team of the Delhi police crime branch owing to the sensitivity of the matter.

The complainant, a mother of three children, told the police that she was married to an alleged criminal and lives in Sadar Bazar. She said that she got in touch with the accused after her husband’s demise. In her complaint, she claimed Mr Dahiya allegedly raped her on multiple occasions on the pretext of helping her out.

While an initial FIR was lodged in the case in July, the woman reported the matter to a senior police official on September 17, which prompted the inquiry against Mr Dahiya. “We received a complaint on Tuesday and a case was registered under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code the next day. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch,” said deputy commissioner of police (North) Nupur Prasad.

In a similar case, a married 26-year-old law student in Amritsar accused an assistant inspector-general (AIG) of threatening her. In her complaint, the woman alleged that the cop was trying to force her into establishing sexual relation with him.
