CBI collects fresh papers in case involving minister

The CBI is probing the role of Delhi PWD minister Satyendar Jain in awarding contracts to certain firms.

New Delhi: The CBI, probing the alleged irregularities in awarding certain contracts by the public works department, has once again collected fresh documents related to the contracts awarded by the department.

Sources said, “Scrutiny of these documents will uncover the truth”. The agency has decided to seek clarifications from two senior officials of the department in connection with its investigation into the alleged irregularities in hiring 24 architects to set up a creative team for the PWD through a detective agency, they added. The CBI is probing the role of Delhi PWD minister Satyendar Jain in awarding contracts to certain firms. Mr Jain is holding additional charge of the PWD also.

“There are allegations that the department allegedly tweaked the tender documents to facilitate the contract for hiring 24 professionals who were to work on mohalla clinics and other projects”, sources said.

Preliminary probe has already revealed that the detective agency was ineligible for bidding but the minister tweaked the tender process to bring it on board, they added.

Meanwhile, the CBI is planning to examine Mr Jain in connection with the alleged irregularities in the appointment of Dr Nikunj Aggarwal as his OSD.
