New Delhi: A man was arrested for allegedly shooting down his 50-year-old wife at their home in Southwest Delhi’s RK Puram on Monday evening.

Police said the couple was alone at home as other members of the  family had gone to a relative’s wedding when an argument ensued between the duo following which the husband shot her dead.

The police said that the accused was arrested from an abandoned plot near his home. A country made pistol, two empty and two live rounds were recovered from him.

The police said that the matter was revealed when the police received a call from the woman’s daughter at 9.41 pm, informing them that her father has killed her mother in cold blood. Soon after, a police team rushed to the spot and formed teams to look for the accused who had escaped moments before the police arrived.

The victim  was rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where she was declared brought dead, the police said. Her MLC had confirmed that she was shot at four times and had injury marks on her back, chest and abdomen.

By the time they reached the spot, the floor was washed clean and a couple of clothes were lying in a bucket, the police said.

The police said that the victim’s daughter, Krishna told them that her parents, brother and sister-in-law live in a government accommodation of Sector 7 in R.K. Puram. Without explaining, she said that her parents had a strained relationship due to which her father often thrashed her mother.

Ms Krishna went to attend a marriage function in north Delhi’s Burari along with her husband, brother and his wife on Sunday, leaving her parents alone.

Knowing fully well that her parents were alone, she called up her mother thrice on Monday, but found her mobile phone to be switched off.

Worried, she contacted her father and enquired about her mother, but he told her that she went out and would ask her to call her up whenever she returns. But instead of waiting for her mother’s call, Ms Krishna called her brother, who broke down and told her that he just returned home and found his mother lying in a pool of blood.

The police said that they have filed a case at the RK Puram police station.
