New Delhi: The Delhi police has arrested five suspected criminals, three of whom were allegedly involved in the murder of gangster Manjeet Mahal’s father, said the police on Sunday.

The suspected criminals were arrested on Saturday evening when they were going in a car toward Mitraun village in Southwest Delhi, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell).

After the car was intercepted, the accused fired five rounds at the police. The police suspected them to be members of a gang led by Kapil-Jyoti Sangwan alias Nandu. The police said that there was a reward of Rs 50,000 on the information leading to the arrest of one of them, who was a sharp-shooter in Nandu’s gang. While four of the arrested are in their 20s, the fifth member is 37- years-old. The police has recovered seven semi-automatic weapons, including a mini carbine gun and 75 live cartridges. Three of the arrested were involved in the murder of Shri Kishan, Manjeet Mahal’s father, in January this year. The police claimed that the gang members were going to Mitraun village to target the family members of Manjeet Mahal after the latter’s gang killed two of their accomplices following the murder of Shri Kishan. According to them, the murder of Shri Kishan was the fallout of the rivalry between the gangs of Kapil Sangwan and Manjeet.
