New Delhi: With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the BJP-ruled South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) presented a populist Budget on Tuesday.

It announced that all its departments will prepare their citizen charter and upload the same on website so that citizens can obtain all information on services provided by the corporation in the prescribed time-limit for delivery of services and related rules and provisions in a single window.

The announcement is part of the budget estimates for the next financial year. The SDMC leader of House, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, announced Rs 25 lakh to discretionary funds for municipal councillors representing wards falling in unauthorised colonies to carry out development work. Ms Sehrwat also increased the budget from Rs 81.42 crore to Rs 90 crore for rural development.

Showing largess towards municipal councillors, she also announced Rs 5 crore annual discretionary funds for the leader of House, Rs 1.25 crore for the leader of opposition, and Rs 75 lakh for the leader of the second largest opposition party. The councillors in each ward will now get Rs 10,000 for the celebration of January 26 and August 15. “The councillors in each ward are to be provided Rs 10 lakh each for the installation of CCTV cameras,” said Ms Sehrawat.

In order to make the entire area under SDMC poster free, she announced that the corporation will identify certain places to be used for pasting posters related to religious and social issues.
