Delhi BJP will host ‘Dahi-Choora’ feast for Purvanchalis
In Delhi, there are 20 Assembly constituencies or 80 municipal wards which are dominated by Poorvanchalis.
New Delhi: In an attempt to consolidate its Poorvanchali vote bank in the national capital, Delhi BJP’s Poorvanchal Morcha planned to celebrate ‘Makar Sankranti’ on Sunday. Several Union ministers will attend the event organised at North Avenue Road. Guests will be treated with dahi chooda and tilkut and be entertained by Bhojpuri stars.
Sources said that considering the might of Poorvanchali voters in the city, the Delhi BJP unit wants to keep its vote bank intact by organising community outreach programme.
Delhi BJP Poorvanchal Morcha president Manish Singh told this newspaper that several Cabinet ministers and party leaders from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will attend the event, including Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, Ram Kirpal Yadav, and others. Bhojpuri superstar turned politician and Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari will preside over the event.
“Around 40 lakh voters in the city are from Poorvanchal and we are using the festival to reach out to them. Also, the party will celebrate ‘Makar Sankranti’ in the way it is celebrated in Poorvanchal,” Mr Singh added.
The BJP Lok Sabha member from Northwest Delhi, Dr Udit Raj, is also organising a programme at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) on Sunday where people will be served litti chokha (a famous dish of Bihar).
Mr Tiwari’s appointment resulted in the BJP’s historic victory in the 2017 municipal polls in which the party had won.
