New Delhi: Celebrations of Karwa Chauth turned tragic for a couple when a 40-year-old man jumped to his death from the fourth floor of his estranged wife’s flat after stabbing her multiple times in front of their four-year-old daughter in Rohini. The KN Katju police is probing the woman’s role in the incident. Police said the incident took place at the woman’s residence in Rohini’s Sector 16 on Saturday night at 12.30 am. The deceased has been identified as Jaswinder Singh (40).

Mr Singh had married Hina around five years ago and had a daughter from the wedlock. He was working as a sale-purchase agent. The couple’s marriage didn’t work out well, following which they decided to part ways and had applied for divorce in Rohini court.

The fight turned bloody when Mr Singh, who was living apart from his wife and daughter for the past one month as per court orders, had gone to meet his daughter during the weekends, the police said. Ms Hina had shifted to a three-bedroom rented flat along with her siblings. At the time of the incident, her brother and sister were present in the flat.

After staying inside the house for some time, the deceased asked his wife to accompany him to the terrace as he wanted to discuss something. A little later their daughter followed them. The ‘discussion’ turned ugly when in a fit of rage Mr Singh repeatedly stabbed Ms Hina. Their daughter, who began calling for help, was the witness of the incident.

The incident came to light when the loud cries alerted the neighbours, while the injured ran for her safety. By the time Ms Hina could rush downstairs, an enraged Mr Singh jumped from the fourth floor. He fell onto a white Swift car and thereafter on the road, thus smashing his head against the ground.

A passerby, who saw Mr Singh lying in a pool of blood, alerted the police control room. A police team arrived and rushed the duo to the hospital where Mr Singh was declared brought dead. According to the police, Ms Hina said, the matter slipped out of hand when Mr Singh asked her for not fasting for him on Karwa Chauth.  It infuriated him and an ugly spat ensued.

However, police said that it is verifying her claims and has formed teams to know what exactly took place. According to the police, they are questioning the the injured’s relatives, who were present in the house when Mr Singh came in, to get a clearer picture about the sequence of events.
