New Delhi: After a dharna, a 50-hour relay hunger strike and a mega rally, the Central government health workers have now threatened to go on strike in December if their demands like payment of hospital patient care allowance at par with nursing allowance, equal pay for equal work, etc. are not met.

Mukesh Sharma, the spokesperson of the workers’ confederation said that their demands have been pending for almost many years and even after the government’s as-surances their demands have not been met.

Mr Sharma threatened, “If this continues, we will again observe 100-hour continuous fast from October 29 and then go on complete strike in Dece-mber 2018. Our workers feel cheated as even after so many days the government has not released an order in this regard”.

He said that a deputation of the Workers Confederation met Union health minister J.P. Nadda last week and briefed him about the long pending demands of Central hospital employees working in all over the country. The deputation also submitted a charter of dema-nds to the minister.

The demands included in the charter were payment of hospital patient care allowance at par with nursing allowance, equal pay for equal work, contractualisation wo-rkers be replaced by regular staff.

The workers also demand the patients and workers ratio to fixed 100 per cent compassionate appointment must be made, dress allowance should be increased to Rs 10,000, all casual and temporary works must be regularised, cadre review of the entire cadre should be done and council for paramedics should be made.
