Bored of wearing the traditional blouse with your sari? Now is the time to pep up your style quotient with this fusion trend.

The model is seen wearing an embellished off-shoulder blouse.

The off-shoulder blouse that is now being worn with a sari is the perfect East meets West trend. Designers now are taking this Western trend and pairing it up with a sari giving it a very unconventional look. Perfect for the contemporary woman, the off-shoulder blouse worn with a sari is very fresh take on a very traditional look. The likes of Katrina Kaif, etc are spotted experimenting with this fusion look.

This look is a definite break from the monotony of wearing a traditional blouse with a sari. Designer Jatin Bhandari sharing his views says, “If one wants to sport a look that is a combination of both traditional and modern elements and still wants to look trendy then this is your best bet.” Designer Reshma Kunhi suggests that one can try pairing the sari with a Western off-shoulder top as well which will give a very different look.

“I feel that off-shoulder blouses pair very well with party wear. One can try pairing an off shoulder blouses either with sari gowns, pre-draped sari and also dhoti style saris.” says designer Richa V Jain.

The key to nailing this look is keep either the sari or the blouse minimal is what Jatin suggests. He adds, “A simple colour block sari with a heavy embroidered blouse will make you stand out in a crowd.”

With this trend, there are a few factors to keep in mind so that one carry it off with ease. Reshma says, “People who are on the heavier side should avoid this unless they are confident to pull it off, but this trend is apt for slender and petite people as it tends to give an illusion of a longer neck. People on the heavier side should avoid bold prints and opt for subtle prints instead. Print on print is also accepted with this trend but one must ensure that they are from the same colour palette. In terms of jewellery anything long is a big no-no.”

The off-shoulder blouse tends to elongate ones neck, so the jewellery should be kept quite minimal.

Richa adds, “Chocker necklaces are quite the rage now and can be worn with a maang tikka too.

One can also forego the chocker necklace and just wear some heavy earrings.”
