Jaipur: Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s claim of an improved law and order situation flew in her face when two politicians including one from her own party were murdered in four days. Overall, three political leaders have been killed in a month and two of them are from the BJP.

In the latest incident on Monday, a local leader, Harveer Saharan, was shot dead in broad daylight outside SDM’s office in Rawatsar in Hanumangarh district. He was a ward councillor and his wife is the chairperson of the Rawatsar municipality.

Unidentified assailants who were in a car fired six shots at him when he got out of his car at 11.30 am. The first bullet hit his stomach while the second missed him. The assailants then pumped four bullets in his head and fled the spot unhindered. Saharan was taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.

Saharan himself was accused in two cases, the murder of a political rival and a kidnapping case. Both the cases were more than a decade old and he was arrested in June this year. Saharan came out of jail last month after being granted bail by the court.
