Lucknow: UP minister for law Brijesh Pathak on Tuesday alleged in the Vidhan Sabha that the Opposition members were responsible for the abduction of a schoolboy in the state capital on Monday.

He claimed that this was designed by the Opposition to malign the Yogi Adityanath government on a day when the government was celebrating its one year in office.

A Class 11 student of La Martiniere School was kidnapped by his own driver in Lucknow on Monday morning. Prompt action by the police led to the car being found on Sitapur road and hours later, the boy was found lying in a field.

“There was a political motive in the kidnapping by the driver whose name is Santosh Yadav. When the police surrounded the village and rescued the student, his driver was also arrested and during interrogation, it was found that it was conspiracy of the Opposition parties to defame the government,” the minister said.

The minister’s allegation immediately brought the Opposition members on their toes and BSP leader Lalji Varma and Congress leader Ajay Kumar Lallu said that the allegation was serious and should be immediately debated in the house.

Speaker Hriday Narain Dixit downplayed the matter saying that the “Opposition members cannot indulge in such activities.”

Earlier, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary raised the issue of seven murders in Allahabad on Monday and also the firing in the Allahabad University campus. Seeking adjournment of rules to debate the issue, he said that this was a proof of the total breakdown of the law and order in the state.

“The people are living in fear and though additional forces have bene deployed across the city, the gruesome murders are a cause for worry,” he added.

UP parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna said that the murders were a result of personal enmity and not a reflection on the law and order situation.

He said that he would inform the house of the facts in the incidents once he got the information from the local police.
