Bhubaneswar: Congress leader and Sundargarh MLA Jogesh Singh, who was suspended from the party, resigned on Friday from the post of MLA and primary membership of the organisation.

He tendered his resignation to the Congress president Rahul Gandhi on “moral grounds”.

“I tender my resignation from the Indian National Congress party on moral ground. I also tender my resignation from the post of the Member of Odisha Legislative Assembly,” Mr Singh wrote in a letter to the party supremo.

He expressed his displeasure on the party for placing him under suspension without taking any clarification from him after he announced to skip Rahul Gandhi’s meeting scheduled on Jan 25 in Bhubaneswar.

The Odisha PCC on Thursday had suspended Mr Singh from the party after he praised Naveen Patnaik.

The OPCC had found Mr Singh’s conduct as sabotaging and served him a show-cause notice.

“We had served him show-cause notice after we found he was conspiring with our rivals to weaken the Congress. Since he had not replied to our notice within 24 hours,” the party had suspended him on Thursday.

“I am quite astonished about the decision taken by the disciplinary committee of the Odisha Congress Party without any show cause notice and explanation. I came to know about the so-called allegations against me, out of which one is praising the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the second one is regarding non participation in the upcoming party meeting by the AICC President to be held on 25th January 2019 due to my pre-scheduled engagements,” Mr Singh wrote in the letter.
