New Delhi: The CBI, probing the sexual abuse case at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), is preparing to constitute a team of medical experts for forensic examination of the skull and bones recovered by the agency sleuths from a cremation ground near the shelter home. It is suspected that recovered bones and skull might be of some victims.

Sources in the agency said, “The agency is planning to constitute a team of medical and forensic experts to scientifically examine skull and bones recovered by the investigators from a cremation ground near the shelter home in Muzaffarpur.” CBI sleuths recently recovered skull and bones from a cremation ground near the shelter and these may belong to a girl who went missing from the shelter home, sources said.

According to sources, the spot was identified by main accused Brajesh Thakur’s driver, who had told the police during interrogation that the girl was allegedly killed and buried there after she threatened to expose Mr Thakur. The Muzaffarpur police had two months ago dug the front portion of the shelter home in search of the missing teenaged girl, reportedly from the national capital region, but had not found any evidence.

The sexual abuse of 34 girls over a period of time in the state government-funded shelter home, allegedly linked to Mr Thakur, came to light after a social audit was conducted by the Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

After the incident came to light, an FIR was subsequently registered by the Bihar social welfare department and 10 people, including Mr Thakur, were arrested. Following a huge outcry, the Nitish Kumar government handed over the probe to the CBI.
