Patna: The Opposition parties in Bihar gave hints on Saturday that Muzaffarpur shelter home incident would be a major poll plank in the coming 2019 general elections.

The RJD and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) have been holding rallies against the state government’s failure in preventing incidents of sexual abuse at shelter homes in Bihar.

On Saturday RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav reiterated his demand for Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation on “moral grounds”. While calling Nitish Kumar “a coward chief minister” he said that “he should resign on moral grounds because he also holds home portfolio. His government has been shielding criminals and big political faces involved in the case and we believe that girls are not safe under the current NDA regime in the state”.

Tejashwi Yadav also threatened to launch a protest “if whereabouts of a missing girl from shelter home were not disclosed” by chief minister Nitish Kumar whom he blamed of having a personal relationship with Muzaffarpur shelter home main accused Brajesh Thakur.

Brajesh Thakur, the administrator of the NGO Sewa Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti, which ran the shelter home at Muzaffarpur, was among the ten accused who was arrested in June after evidence showed their links with the case.
