Bhubaneswar: Alik Chakraborty, a politburo member of small Naxalite outfit CPI (ML) (Red Star), was nabbed in a joint raid of Odisha Police and West Bengal Police on a private hospital here Wednesday night, Odisha police sources said on Thursday.

Chakraborty faces around 70 cases pending against him at various police stations in West Bengal. Sources said the Maoist had come Kalinga Hospital here for treatment where the cops pounced on him.

“We were informed about Alik’s movements by West Bengal police and their personnel had been camping here for past few days. Soon after he reached hospital, the cops captured him,” said Police Commissioner Y B Khurania without divulging further details about the red rebel.

The naxal leader Chakraborty will be produced in Odisha court for trial.
