Akshara Hassan on her short film Joyride, sharing sets with her family members and if directing a movie is on cards.

Akshara, who made her debut with R Balki’s Shamitabh, is sort of making a comeback with this short film.

Streaming service Voot has announced Signature Shorts that will see it releasing 12 short films, all with an unconventional story and a twisted ending. Among the first set of films that are releasing today is actress Akshara Haasan’s short film titled Joyride.

Akshara, who made her debut with R Balki’s Shamitabh, is sort of making a comeback with this short film. Speaking about the same, she says, “It is good that I got some time. In the meanwhile, I have worked on my acting skills.” Talking about her short film, she says, “It’s a different kind of a platform. We can explore things very differently. Short films and web series take our content all over the world and thereby making it clear that our Indian filmmakers are talented. The fact that these platforms are taking our talent worldwide is overwhelming for all of us.”

Sharing how the film Joyride happened, she says, “Two years after my film Shamitabh released, I had visited Mumbai and they (filmmakers) were looking for an actor for Joyride. When I was asked if I would like to be associated with a short film, I instantly agreed. Then Fardeen Khan narrated the story to me and here I am.”

An upcoming Tamil-Telugu-Hindi film titled Sabaash Naidu brings Akshara, her sister Shruti and their father Kamal Hassan under the same roof. Where Kamal and Shruti are acting in the film, Akshara is wearing the hat of an assistant director.

Describing her experience of working with her sister and father, Akshara says, “All three of us are creatively very different people. Working together on the same sets indisputably, we could understand each other’s professional side better. Since our professional style really varies, I am happy getting to know more about it. Being together on the same sets was indeed a pleasant experience for all of us.”

Interestingly, it isn’t the first time where she is working as an assistant director. The actress had, in fact, started her career as an assistant director to Rahul Dholakia on Society (2010) which starred her mother Sarika.

Is directing a movie on her mind? “I would definitely love to direct but at the moment, I am busy acting. I have not thought about it. However, if time permits and if I come across a good script, why not? I will surely love to direct a film. It could be a short film as well,” she concludes.
