Yami Gautam, who is busy promoting her upcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu, is sporting a new look these days. She has had her hair cut short for Uri, in which she plays an intelligence officer.

“In my head, I’ve always been Rapunzel and wanted to have the longest hair ever. The last time my hair was this short was when I was seven-years-old,” Yami says, adding, “This look is for Uri. My director said that I would look sharper as an intelligence officer with short hair. He told me that my character wouldn’t invest time in vanity. So I took the plunge without thinking twice.”

The actress says that it’s important to take such steps to support and justify your role. “There could be some inhibitions about certain things, but in most cases, team spirit and being true to yourself as an actor are more important,” she says.

Uri is based on the surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army in 2016.
